Pause for Thought
“Your mind will take the shape of what you frequently hold in thought, for the human spirit is colored by such impressions.” —MARCUS AURELIUS, MEDITATIONS, 5.16
If you bend your body into a sitting position every day for a long enough period of time, the curvature of your spine changes. A doctor can tell from a radiograph whether someone sat at a desk for a living. If you shove your feet into tiny, narrow dress shoes each day, your feet begin to take on that form as well. The same is true for our mind. If you hold a perpetually negative outlook, soon enough everything you encounter will seem negative. Close it off and you’ll become closed-minded. Color it with the wrong thoughts and your life will be dyed the same.

Equinox
The upcoming spring equinox, often hailed as a time of balance and renewal, marks the moment when the sun crosses the celestial equator, making day and night approximately equal in length. Occurring around March 20th or 21st in the Northern Hemisphere, this astronomical event symbolizes the transition from winter's dormancy to spring's awakening.
Across cultures and traditions, the spring equinox is celebrated as a time of rejuvenation and fertility. It's a period when nature bursts forth with new life, as buds blossom into vibrant flowers, and animals awaken from their hibernation. This season invites us to embrace change, growth, and the promise of new beginnings.
Spiritually, the equinox holds significance as a moment of equilibrium, where light and darkness, masculine and feminine energies, find harmony. Many rituals and ceremonies are performed during this time to honor this balance and to set intentions for the months ahead. It's a time for cleansing, releasing old patterns, and welcoming in fresh energy.
Astrologically, the spring equinox marks the beginning of the zodiacal year, as the sun enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. Aries' fiery energy ignites our passions and drives us to pursue our goals with renewed vigor.
As we approach the spring equinox, it's an opportune moment to pause, reflect, and realign with our inner selves and the natural world. Whether through meditation, ritual, or simply spending time outdoors, let's embrace the energy of this seasonal shift and welcome the light and warmth that spring brings.
Suggested Ritual
1. A candle (preferably green or yellow)
2. Spring flowers (such as daffodils, tulips, or crocuses)
3. Paper and pen
4. Optional: crystals associated with renewal and growth (such as clear quartz or green aventurine)
5. A quiet and comfortable space indoors or outdoors
Steps:
1. Preparation:
- Find a quiet space where you won't be disturbed. If possible, perform the ritual outdoors to connect with nature.
- Arrange your materials on a small altar or table. Light your candle.
2. Grounding and Centering:
- Take a few deep breaths to center yourself. Feel your connection to the earth beneath you.
- Close your eyes and visualize roots extending from your feet into the earth, anchoring you to the ground.
3. Setting Intentions:
- Take the paper and pen, and reflect on what you wish to manifest and cultivate in the coming season. These could be goals, intentions, or qualities you want to embody.
- Write down your intentions clearly and positively. Visualize them as already manifesting in your life.
4. Candle Blessing:
- Hold the candle in your hands and infuse it with your intentions for the season. Imagine the flame carrying your desires out into the universe.
- Say a simple blessing or affirmation, such as: "I bless this candle with the energy of renewal and growth. May its light illuminate my path forward."
5. Flower Offering:
- Place the spring flowers on your altar or hold them in your hands. Take a moment to appreciate their beauty and the energy of new life they represent.
- Offer the flowers to the earth as a symbol of gratitude and reverence for the cycle of rebirth.
6. Closing:
- Express gratitude for the blessings in your life and for the opportunity to celebrate the spring equinox.
- Blow out the candle, symbolizing the end of the ritual. Carry the energy of renewal and growth with you as you move forward into the season.
Feel free to customize this ritual to suit your personal beliefs and preferences. May your spring equinox be filled with joy, abundance, and new beginnings!

Astrology
A Pisces new Moon on the 10th sets a dreamscape for wishful thinking, all lovely, but how do you turn those dreams into a reality? Perhaps the Mercury, moving on the same day into Aries, will help you come up with some ideas? Mercury will always come up with bright ideas, regardless of what sign he’s in, the difference here is he’s prepared to do something about it – are you? That’s not a green light to be hasty, being creative is one thing, being impulsive is quite another.
The Equinox is the headline grabber in March, on the 20th this is the Sun’s move into Aries, and we celebrate equal light and dark and the triumph of light over darkness as the days extend. Mars and Venus will both shift into Pisces this month, continuing their courtship, be sure to have clarity in your relationships under control by the 25th when a Lunar Eclipse sorts the runners from the also rans.
Aries
Just how excited are you, you know what this means Aries; it’s all about you! This brings the Sun home for you, back to the start of your solar year and its birthday time for all Aries born. Not that you need it, but here’s permission to have the biggest bit of cake, the grandest seat in the house and the right to get your own way or is that out of your own way?
Taurus
We all have things we wish we’d done differently and sometimes we get the chance to go back, sometimes it’s impossible, so if you can then do it. The Sun highlights past events but he’s also suggesting you can let go of what you no longer need to carry with you into the future. This is a nostalgic time for you, whether it’s hankering after childhood chocolate treats or looking at old photos, indulge yourself.
Gemini
You do like to get out and about and getting out and about is one thing the equinox offers you. But you must be careful about who you tell what to. There could be a directness that comes from being sure of what were only woolly facts at best, make sure you know the truth before claiming to speak it. It’s also good time to get involved in new organisations and groups.
Cancer
Remind yourself that this is a professional peak for you, a time when success is there for you to seek it out. Your solar chart puts you into the limelight and no matter how grand or humble your goals are, there will be someone who needs your skill. With the Sun’s help all you have to do is make the effort to find them.
Leo
The Sun has your best interests at heart and from the equinox he’s focusing on bringing a collaboration through a meeting with a mentor, teacher of some sorts or someone who has a breadth of worldly knowledge that can help you achieve an ambition. Here’s the thing, that’s not all about work; it’s travel, education, and some old-fashioned luck.
Virgo
There’s nothing to be gained from sitting in the dark worrying about what’s in there with you. Better to switch on a light and face up to it, that’s what the Sun currently offers you. A big shiny, get right into the corners of your love life, your finances and anywhere else that you think could do with a clear out. Focus your attention on what needs to be transformed.
Libra
Love is in the house as the Sun illuminates your relationship sky and love in all its forms; anyone you love to spend time with from family to your other half. If you’re single, the Sun could help with that, but it’s more likely to be someone you already know and just haven’t been paying attention to. Any legal issues that are ongoing get a little extra good vibration too.
Scorpio
Do you need more discipline? Before you get too excited about that Scorps this time it’s about taking care of your routines, getting your working life running smoothly and making sure you’re where you’re supposed to be when you’re supposed to be there. If things aren’t running the way you’d like, the Sun’s move will show who is holding you up and why that might be?
Sagittarius
If music be the food of love, why can’t rabbits sing? You will be singing a different tune if your single and seeking love. The sort that has you wondering what someone is up to, if they are thinking about you, if they would go on another date. The Sun highlights new love, true love and the love of things that bring joy to your heart too. Get creative.
Capricorn
Did they not hear you? Are they ignoring your advice on purpose? What’s with that? Why are you taking the time? Nobody is listening to a word you say, some people like family for example? Is it time to get tough or is it time to get clever? Some folks think you’re bossy, I couldn’t comment, so when you’re more persuasive than bossy it throws them; right into agreeing with you.
Aquarius
You can’t hide what you’re thinking, you can’t disguise your annoyance with a smile and a polite nod, not happening for you. The Sun makes that double trouble as your mind is made up and nothing anyone can say or do is going to change that. You’ve got an idea, it’s more than idea it’s what’s happening and anyone not onboard with it can talk to the hand because the face isn’t listening. Helpful.
Pisces
Money makes the world go around, the world go around and yes I am in a bowler hat doing the dance, with a clinking clanking sound. If you’re not old enough to get that reference, go spend money like water, nobody will stop you. If, however, the cabaret has been running a little longer maybe the equinox could remind you that impulse is good, staying in a debit balance is better.
